Dear Amy,

I wanted to thank you again for coming to talk to Julie Reiser’s travel writing course last month. The idea we discussed about covering an LGTB theme for the May issue has really got me thinking about how to incorporate the community here in Baltimore. What do you think of a spin off of your pieces, Getting Personal with the Top 20 Bachelors and Bachelorettes in Baltimore and Labor of Love, to cover prominent LGTB figures in a similar interview-style format?

The piece, Queens of Charm City: Baltimore’s Best in Drag, would feature Baltimore drag queens, accompanied by performer photos from everyday life and performances. The piece fits nicely with the May issue, as it highlights the local drag queens to keep an eye out for in the upcoming June Baltimore Pride parade.

Beyond being an intriguing story, the interviews would dispel many of the views our readership has as being intrigued, yet cautious onlookers of drag and doubly reach out to the LGBT community and bring new readership. With a contact to a local drag queen, Veronica VRON Lush, I think this piece has a lot of potential and I’m free to begin working on it immediately.

I’ve written pieces geared towards Arrive Magazine, Passport and the Washington Post and am published in the Hopkins Undergraduate Research Journal. I served as the Cohasset High School Executive Editor for one year. For sample pieces visit my travel blog. I Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Morgan McCarthy
